With 36 facilities, Asia is STT GDC’s largest and most varied region, ranging from India’s mature, decades-old colocation market to newer entrants like Vietnam and Japan that only opened in the past two to three years. India is the clear anchor at 20 confirmed sites, while Southeast Asia — Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam — represents the current growth frontier, much of it built around joint ventures with local partners such as Basis Bay in Malaysia, Frasers Property in Thailand, VNG Corporation in Vietnam, and Globe/Ayala in the Philippines. A recurring cross-border theme is proximity to Singapore: STT GDC’s Johor campus in Malaysia sits roughly 15 kilometres from the border specifically to link into the company’s Singapore interconnection hub and absorb overspill demand as Singapore’s own capacity tightens. Newer AI-focused buildouts, such as the Jakarta campus engineered around Nvidia’s Vera Rubin GPU platforms, show the region’s growth increasingly being driven by AI workload demand rather than traditional colocation alone.
